Invest in YOU.

Invest in YOU!

When you finally make the decision to go to therapy, you’re ready to get down to business. As a skills-based therapist, I stay focused on my clients’ goals. This way, you get what you need and go on with your life.

I keep my caseload small so that I can provide an experience that is unique and custom-tailored to each client. This means having ample availability during the day for those with flexible work schedules, being easily accessible in between sessions through a secure messaging platform, and sending supplemental resources, videos, and articles to clients so that they can get the most out of their treatment.

Some of my clients benefit from a short-term treatment approach (usually around 12-20 sessions). EMDR for trauma can take much longer. Many of my clients stay 3-5 years.

Some reasons EMDR takes longer can be related to:

  • Ability to manage your nervous system and regulate your emotions

  • History of childhood trauma-abuse, family addiction, etc.

  • If you experience dissociation

  • PTSD and other complex trauma

  • Your own active addiction

  •

A few ways that I am able to help you see results is by:

  • Coming up with objective and measurable goals at the onset of therapy.

  • Checking in with clients on a regular basis to ensure that they feel their needs are being met and that we’re getting to the root of the problem.

  •

    With Insurance

I accept Aetna and United Behavioral Health insurance, which includes Optum, Connecticare and others.

Please check with your insurance to see if I am an IN-NETWORK provider and what you can expect to pay for each session.

    Without Insurance

Sometimes people don't want to use their insurance or have a deductible to meet anyway.

My out-of-pocket fee is $200. Out-of-network sessions are sometimes partially reimbursed by your insurance,

and I would provide you with documentation to submit.

    Reasons to not use insurance?

    More privacy.

Sometimes insurance companies will occasionally ask to see notes on a client, limit the number of sessions or limit to 45-minute sessions. Insurance audits can occur to determine if our therapy  work is "medically necessary."

Insurance also requires you to have a mental disorder diagnosis. They will not reimburse without one.

We can discuss what diagnosis feels best for you, but sometimes people don't want any record or paper trail of this type of thing.

    More flexibility.

We can be creative with sessions--maybe you'd prefer a walk and talk in the outdoors instead of the office, or switch to online as needed, or do longer sessions to cover more territory faster (sometimes called intensives).

    More Skin in the Game.

Clients who pay out of pocket often show more investment in their growth and healing and get down to business quicker so they can spend less time in therapy.

There are ways I can help you submit out-of-network claims to your insurance yourself. Often, if you have OON benefits and have met that deductible, your insurance will reimburse you 80-100% of the session fee. You would pay me upfront for the session and I provide Superbills (receipts) for you to submit to your insurance.

    I also accept HSA/FSA cards.

Starting therapy doesn't have to be a scary process. I offer gradual services to make the process as smooth as possible for you. Here's some basics to know before you start:

    Free Phone Consultation

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to help answer your questions and understand a little more about what I can do to help you heal.

    Scheduling

After we speak, and when you are ready to schedule, you can request an appointment online through the Client Portal or we can set it up together.

    First Session

The first appointment is where you will get a chance to see if we are a good fit. Please let me know if you start to feel overwhelmed or overly anxious. The first session, I ask a lot of questions, but you can decide how much you want to share and I will go at your pace. You can always say "I'm not ready to talk about that" and that is okay.

If you don't feel like it's a good fit, you can say that too. I'm happy to to help find you someone else. It is most important that you feel comfortable with any therapist. Of course, that can take a few sessions too.

Also, be prepared for what I call a "vulnerability hangover". You may leave the first session feeling a little wonky about all the stuff you just shared with a perfect stranger. It's totally normal to feel that way. I have heard many stories and don't judge. I'm busy listening for themes and patterns in your story and figuring out what will help you most!

    Ongoing Treatment

Our plan for treatment will evolve as we figure out what works and what doesn’t work for you. Depending on your situation and how complex it is, your motivation, and openness will gauge how long we work together. Some people may have 8-12 sessions; others, a year or more. I understand therapy is hard work but with hard work comes big reward.

    Graduation

Once a week therapy sessions are typical, although sometimes twice a week can help people feel better more quickly at first. We can move to every other week when you've learned some new skills, are seeing some shifts in your life, and some of your goals have been met.

Some people like to move to every three weeks or once a month when they are getting ready to graduate.

My goal, no matter what, is to help you feel relief and eventually see you graduate.

This is my favorite part! Your last session with me will be a celebration of all your hard work and progress.
